A Message From Our Head of Education - Marion Stanton

Welcome to CandLE where our vision is that children who have Complex Access Needs (CAN) can access learning and fully participate in society if they are given appropriate support.

I have worked with students who have difficulty with movement and with communication for the past 36 years and during that time I have had the privilege to learn from some of the best practitioners in the business including Dr. Rosemary Crossley, Dr. Karen Erickson, Dr. Sally Clendon, Dr. Sarah Moseley, Caroline Musselwhite, and many other trail blazer’s in the field of disability and optimizing learning for a group who have traditionally been left behind. We are also pleased to be able to share our own evidence-based research through which we are keeping track of how our complex learners are making progress and being supported throughout the UK.

 

We know how our learners need to be supported and we are always ready and willing to share that knowledge with Local Authorities, schools, families and the students themselves. We have been delighted to have supported students into further education who it was thought might not be able to manage basic learning. It is a matter of approach. There is not one teaching style that suits all. There is a need for adaptive teaching that recognizes the needs of each and every student and ensures that approaches to teaching take this into account.
