CandLE have a library of accessible books that have been adapted into Grid 3 to provide the user the most independent reading experience possible. We pride ourselves on having created the most accessible books available to AAC users. Our books function using all access methods including eye gaze, switches and touch screen.
Get in touch to find out more about accessing books in Grid 3!
The books have an automatic voice output on every page and read the text as well as highlighting it. This benefits lower level readers, to help them to learn to read whilst the text is being read out to them. The user is able to navigate independently through the book using the large ‘turn page’ button and well as navigating through the chapters.
There is a bookmark option on each page and a tools jump which will take the user to functions such as copying and pasting quotes and keyboards. This will enable them to be able to communicate, discuss and make notes whilst reading the book, with different keyboard options for different access needs.
We have many well known book collections available including the full Harry Potter series and the full Lemony Snicket series.
Our book library is split up in to a 1-6 level system to coincide with our literacy programme. This is to ensure that there is always appropriate reading materials available for every level of reader. This includes reading for pleasure or supporting their literacy and to improve their reading.
All CandLE staff and students have access to the whole CandLE book library, but books can also be adapted on request. Contact us to find out more: [email protected]
