Grid 3
CandLE primarily works with Grid 3 which is specialist AAC software developed by Smartbox. Grid 3 is designed for users that have complex communication and access needs and allows the user to communicate using symbol and text communication and to control their environment using their device.
CandLE have utilised Grid 3 functions to develop educational materials that expand on its capabilities as a communication tool. Grid 3 can be ordered directly from CandLE.
Grid can be installed onto a users communication device, laptop or tablet and be controlled using a wide range of access methods including eye gaze and switches.
Grid 3 allows the user to edit communication pages and to make new resources from scratch. We have used this to create accessible books, literacy programmes and on-going curriculum access for students.
The versatile nature of Grid 3 gives us freedom to produce resources to suit the needs of any AAC user. Factors such as cell sizes and placement are taken into consideration depending on the accuracy and access method of the user.
CandLE teachers and teaching assistants regularly adapt lessons and learning resources in Grid 3 to support their students on-going studies. Our resource developers are always working on adapting and creating new resources which are available for free to all CandLE students and staff and can also be purchased on request.
