Through many years of experience working with students with complex needs and trialing methods of teaching literacy, CandLE have developed a literacy package called ‘Literacy Resources For All’.
Literacy Resources For All supports the CandLE literacy programme and is designed to help individuals with literacy at any level from the emergent, where students are beginning to learn to recognise letters, all the way to students becoming fully literate and preparing for GCSE.
The programmes are all available on Grid 3, with Phonics For All also being available on Mind Express and soon to be in Clicker 8. AAC users can access the programmes through any access method, either individually or in a classroom environment. The programmes are also appropriate for the general population of the classroom which makes the environment more inclusive for the AAC user.
Phonics for all exposes the student to all approaches to phonics including analytic phonics, analogic phonics, embedded phonics, synthetic phonics and whole word. It is a complete tool to support learners on their way to using synthetic (blended) phonics.
It has been designed to support a range of access methods. There are two keyboards built into Phonics for All, enabling students to experience and rehearse all of the common units of sound that make up the words we use every day.

Marion Stanton developed the programme after trialling the idea for over fifteen years with a number of students, many of who have gone on to become literate. She has worked with Speech and Language therapists, as well as teachers and families, to ensure that the programme meets the literacy acquisition needs of the students.
Leap to Literacy is a comprehensive literacy programme incorporating single word reading, vocabulary understanding, silent reading with comprehension, sentence structure, spelling, rime, communication and writing.
The aim of Leap to Literacy is to integrate different aspects of literacy so that the student develops a number of relevant skills.

Bridge to English is a programme that is currently being developed within Grid 3. It is a 54 session programme which aims to bridge the gap between basic literacy learning and accessing the English curriculum. This will provide the student with the knowledge and skills to be able to write and analyse text. This can lead to GCSE and equivalent qualifications.
