A qualification that students who rely on Augmentative and Alternative communication (AAC) can follow to give them the skills they need to be able to communicate effectively. The course involves:

• Developing conversation skills

• Directing others

• Expressing feelings and preferences

• Using Remote Communication as a communication tool.

At the end of this course the participant will gain a qualification in the use of AAC. This course is often offered to students we support with curriculum as an extra qualification to go alongside their general learning qualifications and to improve their communication skills.

CandLE are developing five qualifications that will be tailored to the needs of students who rely on Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) but which will also be appropriate for a much wider cohort of students who have physical and/or learning disabilities. These qualifications are also a good option for students with gaps in education due to physical or mental health absences. These will include:

Bridge to English

•   Bridge to Maths

•   World Knowledge

•   Independent living Skills through Technology and Instruction

•   Personal Project (a research project based on the students interests)

Uniquely, these qualifications allow the students to participate using their preferred method of communication and they are tailored for individual access needs.
